Safety first — don’t wait for an assessment
Fire or immediate danger: 999 / 112
Fire, unexplained smoke, suspected carbon monoxide, or dangerous burning or sparking? Move to safety and call from a safe place. Don’t investigate, tackle a fire or re-enter until emergency services say it is safe.
In flats, follow your building’s evacuation plan and fire-service instructions. If smoke or fire affects you, leave by a safe route; never use a lift.
Security threat: 999 / 112
Intruder present, break-in in progress, violence or immediate threats? Get to safety if possible, avoid confrontation and call emergency services.
For a past crime with no immediate danger, contact police on 101 or report it online.
Safety faults: qualified help promptly
Faulty alarms, failed emergency lighting, blocked exits, damaged wiring or broken locks need prompt attention from your landlord or responsible person and a qualified fire, electrical or security professional. Don’t wait for routine servicing.
Don’t disable alarms or attempt live electrical repairs. If immediate danger develops, call 999 / 112. JHS is not an emergency service.
